The Five Soldiers

The campaign fought in Italy, 1943, during the Second World War, was a brutal business. Many of the combatants were destined to remain on Italian soil for all time.
The Coldstream Guards found themselves at the epicentre of this relentless carnage. They battled a German Army that fought hard and ruthlessly. The winter elements and Southern Italy terrain also proved to be their constant enemy.
Five members of one Coldstream Guards platoon had become very close friends during their rigorous recruitment training in England. During their first night in Italy, in the town of Salerno, they made a special pact with each other. If any of them were to be killed or captured, the survivors would contact their families back home and try to bring comfort and ease their pain and sorrow.
This is the story of those five Coldstream Guardsmen and the hardships and sufferings they were forced to endure.
